Speaking on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day, he said that the armed personnel could deliver their best only if they were assured that the nation was standing behind them and that their family would be cared for in case of any eventuality.

He said that widows and children of those killed in the battle field and those disabled must be cared for and the various agencies must work in coordination with the resettlement authority towards the cause.

He also urged the state government to consider the request by the armed forces for concessions and exemption of house tax among others and ensure their overall welfare.

Speaking on the occasion, former Air Chief Marshal F H Major urged the state government to consider exemption of house tax to ex-servicemen as followed in other states. These personnel should also be given weightage when being considered for recruitment into government jobs.

He lamented that many a time, the armed personnel did not receive recognition due to them by the people.

Retired Vice Admiral Dilip Deshpande and retired Lieutenant General D Raghunath also expressed concerns over ex-servicemen finding jobs and urged the government to implement welfare schemes for armed forces in letter and spirit.

Bereaved families were presented with cash during the occasion. The governor released the armed forces flag, a ouvenir and presented awards on the occasion.
