Kannada literary meet from Feb 4

Announcing the revised dates here on Saturday, Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Nallur Prasad denied the rumour that the literary event, slated for December 24 earlier, was postponed due to lack of funds.

He said the meet was deferred as a large number of people can’t take part due to the elections. On the grants, he said: “A sum of Rs five crore will be required for the event. A number of organisations have come forward to donate money. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike is expected to release Rs one crore. The State government employees may donate their one day’s salary, which may amount to Rs two crore.”

He said all efforts would be made to bring chairpersons of previous Sahitya Sammelanas on a single platform during the event. Those willing to contribute money for the convention may send their DDs/cheques drawn in favour of ‘77th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, Bangalore’.

Contributions are exempted from tax under Section 80G of the IT Act.
