Dell shifts focus to SMBs, becomes No.2 in the segment

The focus on SMBs has begun to show results with Dell becoming the No. 2 in the SMB segment as per the third quarter CY2010 IDC report.

Dell has introduced a multi-faceted strategy for long-term growth which was designed to transform the company to a solutions provider that delivers targeted hardware, services and solutions to address the top needs of consumers and organisations of all sites, Dell India Medium Business CSMB Director Satyen Vyas told reporters here.

At the global level, there are 72 million plus SMBs, one-third of which is located in Asia Pacific region. In India there are approximately eight million SMBs, while in Kerala it is approximately 12,000.

Dell's recent global restructuring has helped the company better serve customers and understand unique SMB technology needs. The SMB segment has been among the articulated top five priorities for Dell globally, he said.

The company has launched SMB specific products from the vostro range of desktops and laptops, which is among the first PC line specifically designed for the SMBs to industry leading IP SAN storage technology and among the most power efficient services.

Dell has also launched its PartnerDirect channel programme to increase its reach to Indian cities reaching out to almost 200 cities, thus enabling Dell to provide a complete technology solution to SMBs from notebooks, to enterprise products among others. The company was 'committed to the small and medium businesses in the country to help them grow with a suite of specific products and simplified IT solutions geared to their needs', Vyas said.

Dell has also launched 'Take Your Own Path' campaign, the first SMB brand camp gain which had its genesis in India and is now a global campaign across eight countries. The campaign is directed towards today's entreprenuers of small and medium businesses.
