The victim, identified as Payal Surekha from Assam and a senior technical assistant with the IT giant, was reportedly stabbed several times in the throat and other parts at her second-floor house in Ramana Babu Apartment at Lakshmi Layout earlier in the day.

The incident came to light when her landlord opened the door with a duplicate key to inquire about the victim after her Orissa-based husband Anand Narayan Mishra asked him to do so as she was unreachable on her phone.

Anand Mishra had left for Orissa on Thursday leaving Payal alone.

Not a forced entry

An unidentified person had come to the apartment earlier in the day asking for Anand Mishra’s house. Payal had herself opened the door for this man as no signs of forced entry were found, according to sources.

Sonia Narang, DCP  (South), ruled out the possibility of murder for gain. She said Payal’s jewellery was found intact.

The suspect was certainly known to her. Payal was probably preparing tea when the alleged murder happened.

According to the police, a mobile phone is missing from the house. Call details of Payal’s mobile phone were being verified. A few clues to the murder were found at the house, the police said.

Payal and Anand were married for five years. Sources said they tied the knot after courting each other for some time. Anand worked as a gym instructor at a fitness centre near the  J P Nagar police station some time ago. He is jobless now.

Earlier, they lived in a double bedroom flat in the same locality and moved to their present house a month ago.

Payal took up her present job on November 15, 2010. Distant relatives of the couple live in the City, but they don’t know much about Payal and Anand.

One of the victim’s friends also visited the house after the incident came to light. It is unclear why Anand left the City just a day before the incident.

Anand has been informed of the incident. He is expected to reach Bangalore soon. The J P Nagar police have booked a case. Forensic science experts visited the spot. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
