The institute will accept applications for its first ever BSc programme from January 1, 2011 to March 31, 2011. Students can access applications online as well.

Admissions to the course will be based on marks secured in any of the following national examinations: Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), IIT-JEE and AIEEE. Under KVPY, admissions will be based on the student’s performance in one of the three streams for the following years: Stream SA - 2009, Stream SB - 2010 and Stream SB+2 - 2010.

The four-year course will be a combination of both science and engineering subjects and is expected to be a model for other institutes to emulate. Students will be allowed to select a major and a minor subject in each stream. For example, at the end of the course, a student might receive a degree with a major in physics and a minor in computer science.

During the first three semesters, students will be exposed to pillars of classical scientific, mathematical and engineering principles. Also, they will have to take up courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and engineering.

Moreover, students have to take up course study in humanities such as history, philosophy, sociology, and management of science and technology, as well, in the first three semesters, under this programme.

After the completion of the first three semesters students have to opt for a stream that would be her or his ‘major’. Simultaneously, the students will also have to pursue 30 pc of courses from other streams that would constitute their ‘minor’ subjects.

Streams of study that have been proposed at present are: Materials, environment, computing, physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics.

Research will be an important component of the BSc programme. Students will have to submit a research project in their chosen area, at the end of the final two semesters.
