NMPT registers 10.82 pc growth

The number of vessels handled also increased as the port handled 310 vessels as against 257 vessels handled during the first quarter of previous year (20.62%). The containerised cargo traffic also registered a remarkable growth rate of 23 per cent by handling 8,164 TEUs.

During the period under report, the Port has witnessed increase in the handling of cargo like fertiliser, maize, iron ore fines and containers.

As a part of business development initiative, the Port has conducted a joint Trade Meet at Hassan on June 19, 2009 in association with the Hassan District Chamber of Commerce & Industry. After a fruitful interaction, the exporters have expressed their willingness to route their cargo through NMPT.

Apart from this, concreting work of various roads are nearing completion as part of strengthening the road network in and around the Port. To develop a Container Terminal, a meeting was held at NMPT on June 26 with the prospective investors for development of Container Terminal, informed a press release.
