Habibulla, who was serving as police inspector in Hosadurga in 2007 was caught by Lokayukta while receiving a bribe of Rs one lakh from A Manohar, a lorry owner from Gangavati.
The cop had even attempted to flee from the spot assaulting the Lokayukta staff.
The District Court has sentenced Habibulla to five years’ imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh under Prevention of Corruption Act.
Default in payment of fine attracts one more year of jail term. Habibulla is now working as inspector at Civic Rights Enforcement Directorate, Tumkur.
