As much as 11,000 sq ft of land and four trees of the Park were parted with for the construction of the War Memorial.

It is stated that the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike will handover the parking facility to War Memorial conveners for maintenance.

However, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah told Deccan Herald that the parking facility was meant for all offices located in the vicinity. “The facility proposal is meant for the benefit of all civilians visiting the Raj Bhavan, AIR, the Police Commissioner’s office and other such important nearby locations,” he said.

Sanctions awaited

While the design and tender process has been finalised for the project, Siddaiah was still sceptical of the project starting immediately.

The Palike is yet to secure sanctions from the Public Works and the Horticulture Departments for the project, he said. Expected to be completed within 18 months, the facility would accommodate at least 250 cars. The Greens voiced their concern as soon as the Palike announced the project on Thursday.

“I believe that the BBMP is all set to ruin the Park. It is setting a bad precedent,” said a environment activist. The park is spread over 17 acres.
