It’s bold, stylish and definitely commands a lot of attention. And you bet men simply love all that extra attention they get when they’re wearing it. Tuxedo, tux for short, is every man’s first choice for any formal occasion.

And tuxedos are quite popular in Bangalore. You’d spot young as well as old men in well-fitted tuxedo at nights outs, parties, weddings and black tie events.
Metrolife spoke to designer Paresh Lamba and asked him why tuxedos were fast becoming popular in the City.

Velvet or white, with bow tie or without – there’s a tuxedo for every kind of party this season. In India, Paresh observes, “Tuxedos are worn the most to wedding receptions. Also, you would see an assortment of them on New Year eve balls, black tie events like state receptions and award ceremonies.” Paresh reasons, “A tux is by far the most formal outfit a man can wear. It compliments a special occasion to perfection, and is obviously the perfect choice for a black tie affair.”

Black is the most sought after colour in tuxedos. It stands out and looks classy. “There are tuxedos in grey and cream but nothing look better than a man in a black tuxedo,” says Paresh.

He points out that any tuxedo would look complete only when worn with a wing collared white shirt. “Never wear a tuxedo without this shirt. It has wing collars, double cuffs, black studs, and pin tuck detailing on the yoke,” he advises.

Accessorising is an important part of carrying off a tuxedo. It’s important to match the jewellery and accessories to the colour, cut and style of a tuxedo. Paresh says one must invest in good cuff links for the shirt, “Remember to use black stud buttons on the shirt. A bow tie, cummerbund set is another must have,” he says.

It’s not enough if you accessorise well and have a well-fitted, really expensive tuxedo,  shoes play a pivotal role in sprucing up the look. Paresh points out that high shine black chisel-toed shoes can do the trick. “The shoes must have a nice shine and could be either lace ups or slip on. As they say, “one should be able to look at one's face on the shoe,” he wraps up.

 A perfect choice

Manish L Mehta says he always prefers a tuxedo for its classic look and style.

He thinks it looks better when compared to a normal suit. In fact, Manish has just got a tuxedo designed for his wedding reception. “I am getting something unique designed for my wedding. It’s not going to be the usual style,” says Manish.
Manish says he doesn’t believe in accessorising too much. He chooses tuxedos that are showy and designed well.

He prefers tuxedos with a different styling of the collar. The emphasis is also on the cut, which Manish says makes a lot of difference. He usually wears  Italian shoes whenever he wears his tuxedos.

Manish says he also prefers to wear a slim black tie because it stands out.
