CM's political secy to petition Lokayukta against Gowda family

Last Updated 26 December 2010, 16:24 IST

“We have accessed some clinching document evidence against the Deve Gowda’s  family to show their involvement in grabbing around 82 acres of government land in Hassan.

Files missing
A senior district officer Shanthakumari had ordered for reclaiming of the encroached land. However, the order copy and the related files are missing from the district administration’s office there,” he told reporters here.

Puttaswamy alleged the hand of Gowda family’s in destroying crucial documents pertaining to alleged encroachment of Gomala and tank bed, he alleged. Also, he accused MLA H D Revanna of causing a loss to the tune of Rs 38 crores to the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) while he was the chairman between 1991 and 2009.

Irregularities
There were charges of fraud, nepotism and irregularities while awarding tenders during Revanna’s renure. The contract had been given to companies in which his kin are partners, he alleged.

A committee, which looked into these frauds, has  recommended for filing a criminal case against Revanna, in 2004.

However, the then Chief Minister Dharam Singh did not give permission to go ahead with action against Gowda’s son. Revanna and his officers undertook many foreign jaunts in 1995-96, though there was no budgetary provision allocated for it, he added.

To a query, he said the Government would also consult the legal department to see possibilities of initiating action against Revanna from the government side. “The Government won’t step back to initiate a legal action against Devegowda and his family members in the case, if there was a provision for it after a discussion,” Puttaswamy remarked.

Also, they would appeal the Lokayukta to look into these frauds and probe it, he stated.
