Dalits of Mirle village threaten to boycott elections

At a press meet on Sunday, a group of residents of the dalit colony of Mirle said about 100 families are living around 45 poorly built houses in the colony in Mirle. Though, the Government had allotted sites for 35 dalit families in the year 1991-92, the families never received the title deeds.

People belonging to upper caste have filed a writ petition in the Court claiming ownership of the said land.

Neglected
The district administration and the SC/ST Development Authority have done little to break the ice and provide good amenities for them 3  to 4 families are living in small houses. So they have decided to boycott the polls, they added.

Expulsion recommended
In a separate press meet, The Mysore District Youth Congress Committee has recommended disqualification of five rebel party leaders who are contesting the TP and ZP polls independently.

Dr B J Vijay Kumar, president of the district youth congress told reporters on Saturday that Ramakrishna and Rajesh of K R Nagar, Siddharthat of Hoskote, Cheluvaraj of T Narasipur and S Ravi of Chamundeshwari block have remained in the fray despite party’s appeal to withdraw the nominations and support the party supported candidates.
According to him, the Congress party has provided 35 per cent representation for the youth in the panchayat elections.

Out of the 46 ZP seats, 19 seats are allotted for youth, while 59 seats out of 171 constituencies in taluk panchayat limits are given to youngsters.He also thanked the state leadership of the party for the support extended to youth.

Vijaykumar said 98 per cent of the candidates who filed nominations as rebels were convinced to withdraw their papers. They have extended their support to the official party candidates, he said adding that the party would secure a majority seats in ZP, TP in district, he said.
