Three more of rapist gang arrested

Chandra (28), Anji (25) and Basava (26) were arrested in Kolar, where they had gone into hiding, police said. The trio also face charges of robbery and attempt to robbery.

The gang, police say, had raped several women, mostly migrant software workers from North India, in places like Electronics City and Attibele. Police launched a hunt for the members of the gang, after they allegedly raped a 26-year-old girl from Jharkhand on December 12.

Encounter
The victim, who was on her way to her sister’s house along with her boyfriend, was dragged into a car, before being taken to an open field near Hosur, where she was raped by the gang members. She was released in the afternoon of December 13.

While Shankar, the kingpin, was gunned down in an encounter on December 18, another member of the gang, Somashekar alias Shekhar, was arrested on December 16, police said.
