C'magalur ready for polls

Giving details of the steps here on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda said that a total of 139 candidates are contesting for 39 zilla panchayat seats while a total of 395 candidates are contesting the 110 taluk panchayat seats in the district. Out of the total 6,38,710 voters, 3,25,425 are men while 3,14,644 are women. Out of the 924 polling booths, 233 have been categorised as sensitive while 141 have been categorised as hyper-sensitive.

Stating that a total of 5,094 electronic voting machines would be used for the polls, the DC said that a total of 5,200 poll staff have been appointed for poll duty.

Poll observers
The Election Commission has appointed D K Rangaswamy, B Nagaraj and Shirasagi Nagappa as poll observers. Besides, there will be 7 election officers and 10 assistant election officers for Zilla Panchayat polls.

Similarly, there will be 12 election officers, 28 assistant election officers, 1,016 PROs, 10,165 APROs and 3,048 POs. A total of 91 personnel have been given the responsibility of Sectoral Officials, he informed.

Security in place
Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar said the police department has taken all steps for peaceful polling. A total of 123 police officers, 1,138 police personnel and 600 home guards would be on poll duty. Additional force from Tamil Nadu would arrive on December 29.
Meanwhile, 90 ANF personnel would be on duty in the 49 naxal area booth, he informed.
