The Subramanyapura police identified the victims as Naveen (27) from Channapatna and Girish (29) of Goravanahalli. Both the bodies bore multiple stab injuries and were packed in a plastic cover and abandoned in a vehicle on 8th Main, Harinagar BDA Layout near JP Nagar. Naveen was a financier while Girish was into real estate business.

The police are suspecting the involvement of Babu, Sachin, and Appi, who are absconding, in the cirme. They were close friends of the deceased.

Rival’s handiwork

A few months ago, Naveen's brother Santosh was murdered in Channapatna. Naveen was under the impression that it is the handiwork of their rival Muddukrishna. In retaliation, Naveen roped in a few of his friends and attacked Muddukrishna. In this connection, an attempt-to-murder case is pending in Channapatna police station. In turn, Muddukrishna managed to win over Naveen's friends and might have planned and executed the murder, the police said. The deceased, along with the three of their friends, who are absconding, were staying at Naveen's sister's place in Shimoga. Around 3.05 am, they crossed the tollgate on Tumkur Road and paid the toll fee.
