Although the police claimed that the MLA was arrested from Banda, according to some reports he surrendered before the police at the Atarra police station in Banda.

Two accomplices of the legislator — Suresh and Rajendra — were also arrested.

The arrest of the MLA came after the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday ordered registration of a case against the legislator and his arrest along with three accomplices.

Case registered

The orders were issued after the crime branch, which was probing the allegations against the MLA, said in its preliminary report that the girl was gang-raped at the MLA’s house.
Based on the statement of the girl, a rape case has been registered against the MLA and three others.

The minor girl had alleged that the MLA had raped her twice at his house in Banda. On being threatened with exposure, the MLA lodged a report with the police alleging that she had stolen some money and a cell phone from his house.

The girl was later arrested by the police on theft charges.

The legislator was suspended by Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati after the allegations.

The brother of the girl alleged that the Samajwadi Party had tried to exert pressure on the girl to withdraw her case against the MLA.
