Last Updated 02 September 2016, 18:25 IST
Actor Shwetha Srivatsav was happy when she got compliments from friends and fans about the way she has portrayed the role in previous project ‘Kiragoorina Gaiyyaligalu.’

She was told that her role literally carried the film through and this has only inspired her to work on projects that are not repetitive. She is also one of those who doesn’t believe in restricting herself to acting and has started working on her debut directorial. In an interview with Nina C George, the actor talks about her plans.

What is your next project?
I will playing a movie star and it is a glamourous role. I chose to work on the project because it has a philosophical message to it and more than anything, the director kept me in mind when he began writing the story. Unlike other films, this character gives importance to expression and emotions. The team is also very adept at the art of the filmmaking.

Are you choosy when it comes to work?
Actors work hard to stay away from being typecast and I am no different. There are very limited options for female characters and I try my best to choose projects that give me the opportunity to carve a niche for myself. I want to make my presence felt in the Kannada film industry.

What keeps you going? I want to surprise my audience and myself with every new project. This challenge motivates me to work harder and choose meaningful projects.

What is your biggest challenge?
The main challenge lies in working behind the camera. Women in the film industry not only fight to prove their skill in a male-dominated space but also compete to get good work. We are also constantly working towards keeping negativity at bay. I would like to work on projects that explore and showcase sensitive issues.

Tell us about your directorial venture?
The script is ready and I also hope to act in the film. I want to dedicate the next few months to getting my directorial venture started. I am in the process of choosing my team and would like to work on it at my pace, without rushing through it. The idea is not only to fulfil my dream of becoming a director but also to entertain people.
