Two killed, two die of sunstroke during polls in WB

Congress heavyweight and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's Jangipur constituency witnessed violence as a 28-year-old CPI(M) worker Kashinath Mondal was killed in a bomb attack.

"Mondal was attacked by unidentified persons as he was returning home after voting at a booth at Eroali village," Superintendent of Police B L Meena said.

A voter was killed and eight persons, including three policemen, were injured in Asansol Lok Sabha constituency in Burdwan district when armed men opened fire and hurled bombs in a booth at Kanyapur leading to suspension of polling, IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said.
A mob set fire to parked vehicles and houses nearby after the killing, Kanojia said.

Two persons were arrested by the Rapid Action Force, he said, adding "the situation is now under control."

Meanwhile, two voters died of sunstroke at Kanthi Lok Sabha constituency in East Midnapore district, Superintendent of Police Pallab Kanti Ghosh said.

Two Congress supporters were injured in a clash with CPI(M) men at Raghunathganj under the Jangipur constituency.
