BDA comes under HC fire

Last Updated 08 February 2011, 19:26 IST

The Court had directed the BDA to furnish all documents relating to projects for which lands had been acquired, while hearing a petition challenging formation of the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout.

“Poor people buy some land with their hard earnings to secure their future. You (BDA) just acquire their land in the name of development without proper planning for projects,” Justice D V Shylendra Kumar observed.

He said the government had been cheating public by keeping them in the dark. Achamma Ammin Joseph and others had challenged acquisition of 45840.19 acres in villages of Kengeri and Yeshwantapur hobli for formation of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout. The petitioners have sought quashing of the acquisition notification.

Details sought

The High Court has directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to furnish details of unauthorised commercial establishments operating in Jayanagar.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice A S Bopanna sought details while hearing a petition seeking the closure of a hotel in Jayanagar 4th ‘T’ Block.
K V Pradeep had moved the Court seeking the closure of the hotel on 19th main road, Jayanagar.

He had alleged the hotel though obtained permission for Category 2 hotel (two star hotels) from the BBMP, was running the business as Category 3.  He submitted that despite a complaint, the Palike has not initiated any action.

The Bench ordered an immediate inquiry after the respondents in their submission alleged that the petitioner demanded Rupees five lakh to withdraw the case.
