High Court notice to KIADB, Nice

The petitioners, Kare Hanumaiah and others, had moved the High Court challenging acquisition of their lands for the peripheral road project. They contended that the authorities had earlier told the Lok Adalat that their lands were not required, but now claim that four acres are required for the project. The Court has ordered notice to the respondents.

Notice to BU

The High Court has ordered notice to Bangalore University and others on a petition questioning non-appointment of students as members to the Academic Council of the varsity. The petitioners, N Venkatesh and eight others had moved the High Court questioning the non-appointment of six student members as per the the provisions of Karnataka State University Act, 2000 in the recent days.

Follow law

The High Court has directed the government to proceed in accordance with law while leasing out the tank bed at Chikkajala hobli to the Turf Club.

The government, in its interlocutory application had sought certain modifications to the 1995 court order following a petition by environmentalist  Zafar Fathehully.

The order, citing Lakshaman Rao Committee report, had directed that the tank bed area should not be given to any person or institute.

The government contended that 95.32 acres of land is being leased out to the club for a period of 30 years on the condition that the adjoining water body will be protected, and sought modifications to do so.

The division bench headed by Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice V G Sabhahit, directed the government to proceed further, in accordance with law.
