Speaking to reporters, the Minister said the online facility to furnish the details had evoked good response with over one lakh consumers uploading the information.

“We have got very good response from people for our efforts to weed out bogus ration cards and LPG connections. We hope everyone (LPG consumers) respond to the call for furnishing the details by February 19, the last day for submitting the details,” she stated.

Misuse of highly-subsidised LPG (domestic) cylinders is rampant in Bangalore.

Nearly 50 per cent of domestic cylinders are being diverted to black market.

The department wants to prevent it by identifying bogus connections. The details furnished by people will go a long way in saving taxpayers’ money, she added.

Official sources said the department has taken steps to check diversion of PDS rice at district level. The department has done away with the system of tendering the task of distribution of rice to fair price shops.

Instead, the shop owners have to collect their monthly quota directly from the godowns.
