The content in the books, prepared by NACO for the Adolescence Education Programme (AEP), had explicit illustrations with images on issues of growth of human body besides aspects of sexuality like masturbation.
However, the parliamentary committee headed by senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, disfavoured the introduction of sex education in schools and said that the existing AEP literature be withdrawn from all state-run and CBSE-affiliated schools.
"In view of the recommendations of the panel, the NACO has revised the content. The references to controversial issues have been withdrawn from the literature," a senior official associated with AEP said.
The NACO literature was used for AEP in the states. Some states have not adopted the AEP taking objection to the content.
