'Dakshina Kannada, an exemplary district'

He was addressing a gathering at the Bunt Sangha here on Sunday to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the the South Canara Association of Bangalore. The Minister said the HDI is rated on the basis of health, education, cleanliness and infant mortality rate and Dakshina Kannada district was rated as one of the best districts in India.

Appreciating Dakshina Kannada for its contribution to the country’s economic growth, Acharya said Corporation Bank and Canara Bank have the history of 100 years of service to the region and the country much before the liberalisation process. He said these banks have left an imprint overseas as well.

The minister added that though many languages are spoken in Dakshina Kannada like Kannada, Tulu and Konkani, the district never witnessed any row over language, which is exemplary.

Earlier speaking on the occasion, the Pejavar seer Visvesha Teertha Swamiji said many communities live in harmony in Dakshina Kannada, which is an example for rest of the country.

He said Dakshina Kannada is a combination of scenic places and a beautiful culture, which is not found anywhere else in the country. Colourful programmes like Yakshagana, classical dance and music marked the golden jubilee celebrations.
