Participating in the debate on cash-for-vote scam, former general secretary of the SP said:  “I was involved (in the deal) as a principal person at that time as a member of a particular political party. I was following the instruction of the leader of the party.”

Replying to Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley’s charge that Singh was the main player in the episode, Singh said: “Jaitley alleged that I stuck the deal. The deal was stuck at that time. Before the government supported the nuclear deal, the CBI was conducting preliminary inquiry. I got involved in this deal on an assurance that inquiry (by the CBI) would be stopped,” he said.

Singh was referring to the CBI inquiry into the disproportionate assets (DA) case against SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav. There was a rumour that the SP backed the UPA during the trust vote after an understanding between the two parties that the CBI would slowdown its inquiry against Mulayam in the DA case.

Rubbishing the charges that he was the main player, Singh demanded a thorough inquiry to find out who crossed the floor during the confidence vote. “All those people should be investigated. There are members of two sides who have crossed the floor,” he said.
