Baba's condition better

Last Updated 07 April 2011, 19:28 IST

The first news on Baba on Thursday morning was not exactly soothing for the devotees or the doctors. The morning bulletin from the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Institute of Higher Medical Sciences said “his health on the whole is in the same condition as yesterday (Wednesday) evening.” Doctors had, on Wednesday, refused to declare that the spiritual leader was out of danger.

The news in the evening, however, painted a brighter picture stating that his kidneys, which were responding well since Wednesday, are functioning better and that dialysis will be phased out. “There are some positive signs of recovery of kidneys. His vital parameters are ‘near normal’ and satisfactory,” hospital director A N Safaya said.

According to doctors, the assessment of his health in medical terms is that the condition continues to be “critical but stable” for, Baba continues to be on ventilator support and is undergoing suction of the secretions from the lungs and also on continuous renal replacement therapy system to help the functioning of the kidneys.
