Addressing a news conference, Nayak said she held discussions with the deputy commissioner, chief executive officer of zilla panchayat and other officials over the issue. She announced that Malavalli taluk has been selected to launch new schemes.

As political interference hinders the progress and implementation of schemes in other taluks, Malavalli has been selected for the purpose, she disclosed.

Assistant Commissioner Rangappa would be the nodal officer and another round of talks would be held check foeticide, child labour, trafficking of children and other problems.

She also stated that Child Welfare Committee has been doing good service in the district and according to statistics, the implementation of schemes for protection of child rights is satisfactory when compared to other districts in the state, but only spot inspection would tell the truth.

It was necessary to inform the people the steps taken by the Committee in protecting the children, she opined.

Several complaints and violations of Child Rights have been reported in Dakshina Kannada. Based on the information given by the officials 30 cases in 2009-10 and 9 cases in 2010-11 have been reported in Mandya district, she said.

The children from Bihar, who had come to Mandya for Madarasas, are still staying in K R Pet town in the district. A letter written to Bihar government in this regard was established that it was not related to child labour.

Member Mamatha opined that though various departments have been implementing several schemes to protect the child protection act, there was lack of understanding between them.

Inter-departmental communication needs to be improved and the DC has promised to invite the committee members for the future meetings. District Health Officer Dr Arvindappa, Dr Madhu and others were present.
