Cops unearth fake snake poison racket


Acting on a tip off, the squad conducted a raid while a few persons were attempting to sell fake snake poison at Moodabidri Swaraj Maidan. They have arrested six persons and seized car, fake snake poison and six mobile phones.

The arrested are Benett D’Cunha (34), a native of Vivekananda Colony in Hubli; Kiran Shankar Jigajini (34) of Thane, Sathish Poojary (26) of Moodabidri, Ashraf Sameer (26) of Moodabidri, Yogish Shetty (35) of Moodabidri and Godwin Stephen (34) of Chetana colony, Hubli.

Undertrial escapes
An undertrial from the district sub-jail escaped from Wenlock Hospital on Wednesday, where he was brought for treatment, accompanied by the police.   
According to police, the undertrail Hameed, a resident of Bottukere at Guruvayankere in Beltangady escaped through the window of the toilet. 

After the public became aware of the incident, one of the autorickshaw driver from the auto parking on the road behind the hospital informed the police that a person, who was bleeding on the leg sought his help to travel to South Wharf. Unaware that the person had escaped from the police custody, he dropped the person at the South Wharf. The undertrial was involved in an attempt to murder case in Mangalore rural police station limits. A case has been registered.

Man drowns
A person drowned when he accidentally fell into a stream while catching fish in a boat at Kodi Kanyana in Kota police station limits on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Bacchu Poojary (65). A case has been registered.

Rabid dog bites students
A Rabid dog bit two students of DK ZP Primary School, Mata in Uppinngady on Wednesday. The injured students are Kiran and Sameer. They were treated at Uppinangady Primary Health Centre.
