The scouts and guides grounds, which has seen a series of daily activities to make the children’s vacations more fruitful, witnessed a surprise guest on Monday morning. Lyricist and writer Jayanth Kaikini who was in city to attend a musical programme arranged by an entertainment channel, arrived at the venue of Kindara Jogi on invitation from organisers.
The lyricist took the children to a world of fantasies with his small story on freedom.
All living things, including humans need to the liberated from the physical and emotional barriers to achieve good things and become a noble man.

He advised the parents and guardians to allow their children to execute their thoughts and not to impose anything on them.

To substantiate his argument, he told a story on a magician Kummati and his relationship with children in a village.

The story reads as: “There was a magician Kummatti who visited a village once in a year and sat under a big banyan tree. The magician had powers to turn humans into animals and again give the humans their original form. He befriended with the children and asked them what they wanted to become? If some wanted to become lion, few other tigers, elephant and others. The magician turned the children to the form of their wish in the morning and returned to them the human form by the time the children left to their homes.”

The story continues as, “The next year, a boy name Raju turns into a dog and goes missing in the nearby forest. He do not return till evening and the magician tells that it was time for him to leave the village and come only after a gap of a year.

He tells Raju’s counterparts to hold him (the dog) till next year when he returns. Raju is chided by other dogs inside as he do not belong to their lineage. Once Raju encounters his villagers in forest and informs them about the incident. The villagers pity him and takes the dog (Raju) to the village and tie him for a year.”
Kaikini continued the story that the magician returned and gave Raju his original human form.

The first thing he did after becoming human was to go to the terrace of his house and free a bird from a cage. “Raju realised the pain of spending a year in captivity,” the lyricist said.

During the interaction, Kaikini said he became a lyricist by accident. “I never thought I will write songs for films. I was only a poet writing light songs. But, my friend Yogaraj Bhat offered me to write few songs for his film, Mungaru Male. I told him that I can’t fit into the music and restrict my ideas into it. But, he insisted that I must do it,” Kaikini shared his experience with film music.

Director of the summer camp Ravindra Joshi, coordinator Venkoba Rao were present.
