This time, it was on a petition filed by the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities who contended that KPSC had not allowed people with disabilities to apply for the posts of Panchayat Development Officers (PDO).

KPSC had advertised for 1,353 posts of PDOs on March 18, 2011 but disallowed people with disabilities to apply.

On Thursday, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice A S Bopanna, after allowing the petitioners to implead the secretary of KPSC, directed the Commission to issue a corrigendum in one week calling for people with disabilities also to apply.

The court further directed KPSC to allow them at least two weeks to send in their applications.

It directed KPSC to inform through the corrigendum that the applicants would be allowed to participate in the recruitment process subject to the outcome of the writ petition.

The court also expressed unhappiness over the inaction of the State in identifying posts for people with disabilities. Notices have been served on the State and others and they have been directed to file a reply within four weeks.

Last week, the court directed KPSC to issue a corrigendum asking people with low vision and blindness to apply for the posts of first and second division assistants.
