Youth held for woman's murder

Nandakumar murdered Girijamma (65), a widow, in the presence of his girlfriend Anitha. The police also took Anitha into custody.

Nandakumar first met Anitha a few months ago in Kempegowda Nagar. Soon, they started meeting frequently and became very close. Anitha told her mother that she was in love with Nandakumar and wanted to marry him. But Girijamma opposed the proposal.

She called up Nandakumar and advised him to keep off from her daughter, but he did not pay heed. On Friday, Girijamma again called up Nandakumar and took him to task. Enraged, Nandakumar came to her house the same night, assaulted her and smothered her with a pillow.

He fled before neighbours could come to Girijamma’s  rescue. Police registered a case based on a complaint by Girijamma's relative Savithramma.

Auto driver dies

A 48-year-old auto driver who had sustained injuries after miscreants attacked him in Lingarajpuram, succumbed at a hospital on Sunday.

According to police, Ahmad went to a bar in  Lingarajapura on April 17. He picked up a quarrel with Ramesh, Lawrence and others over a trivial issue.

They attacked him with lethal weapons and fled. He was shifted to the hospital. Ramesh has been arrested. Search is on to arrest others, police said.
