The protesters complained that the hostel does not have hygiene and the authorities at the Social Welfare Department have turned a blind eye to it.

The hostel kitchen has turned into a garbage ground with rotten vegetables strewn around the place. Also, foul smell emanates from the kitchen as sewage water flows near the kitchen, they added.

They refused to eat the food prepared on Friday instead protested keeping the food in front of them. The protesters said that dish has been prepared with sub-standard rice. “The leftover food is given to a pig farm situated nearby,” the agitators complained.

The students further complained that the authorities concerned neither visit the hostel nor listen to our grievances. The police tried to pacify the agitating students but in vain.
Since the traffic was completely blocked, the protesters later agreed to protest in front of the Social Welfare Department. Hostel supervisor Ashwathappa who visited the protesters, said that “There was a problem in the food today. However, we will provide good quality of food, henceforth.” Later, the students withdrew the protest.
