Get Aadhaar to avail Govt facilities

The card must for registration of vehicles, procuring driving licence

A circular has been sent to all the government offices to insist on mentioning the UID numbers on applications submitted by the general public to avail schemes.  This follows the order of the principal secretary of e-governance.

In a meeting held on Saturday, the deputy commissioner , said so far, 16.70 lakh have enrolled for the card and the registration will end in June.

Complaints

Following complaints from citizens and elected representatives over misuse of government schemes, the district administration is toying with the idea of making the UID or identity cards issued at the time of registration of vehicles mandatory.

Aadhaar number should be given compulsorily to avail all government benefits including the Employment Guarantee scheme.  Even it is made compulsory to open bank account, availing telephone connection be it BSNL or any other private phones, registration of letters from the Department of Commercial Taxes for traders, renewal of licences, obtaining licence from APMCs or gram panchayats, gun licence, excise licence and to pay income tax.

A final decision will be taken soon, he added. The DC said Aadhaar will also be made a must for registration of vehicles from RTOs, driving licence, building licence from Mysore City Corporation or Mysore Urban Development Authority, buying sites or houses, registration of property, to draw salary from treasury or any other financial dealings, purchase of sims for cell phones.

Discussions are on to extend the condition for factories too. The purpose of this was to check misuse of the government schemes. Those who participated in the meeting included Additional Deputy Commissioner Zaheera Naseem and Deputy Director of Department of Food and Civil Supplies Shivanna.
