Last Updated 30 April 2011, 17:42 IST

The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), the national-level competitive test for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture courses at various colleges, including five

Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and 30 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), will be held on Sunday.  Across India, 11,15,410 candidates have registered for the examination. But not all of them would take AIEEE, as past records are an indicator. Of the total registered candidates, 4,904 will take the computer-based test (CBT) in 20 cities and the rest would go for the traditional pen and paper examination in 81 cities. In Karnataka, the examination will be held in Bangalore, Hubli and Mangalore.

Organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), AIEEE is one of the largest entrance examinations in the world. Apart from IIITs and NITs, other such institutes as deemed universities, technical colleges, and other government-funded institutes admit students based on their score in AIEEE. Those aspiring for BE/B Tech courses will write the test (Paper I) from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. Paper II, for B Arch/Planning courses, will be held from 2 to 5 pm.

The paper will consist of 90 questions of four marks each. The maximum marks are 360.
Paper I will have three parts: A, B, and, C with 30 questions in each part. Students aspiring for Architecture and Planning courses will have to write the mathematics examination, besides an Aptitude Test.

The results will be declared by June 7, 2011. In Bangalore, the examination will be held at almost all Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and the Army Public School, Kamaraj Road. The number of students writing the entrance test is not known, although it is unofficially estimated that about 10,000 students will take AIEEE across Karnataka.
