Mahan bags long jump title

Mahan jumped 7.55M in his fifth attempt to edge out one of the top UK jumpers Andre Fernandez, who was leading with 7.54M till then.

Two other Indians, Shiv Shankar Yadav and Ankit Sharma finished sixth and eighth with efforts of 7.20M and 7.15M respectively on Saturday.

National record holder high jumper Hari Shankar Roy improved on his last week performance at the same venue during the Birmingham Games by leaping to 2.14M to win a silver.
In the men’s shot put, Satyender Singh finished third with a throw of 17.61M. UK’s top thrower Carl Myerscough won the event with an effort of 20.19M.

The Indian athletes are on a training-cum-competition camp in London at the Newham Sports Academy. They will take part in the LEAP European meet at Loughborough on July 29.
