“My journey started about 10 years back when I came to Mumbai to be a singer.

However, at that time, there were hardly any opportunities or any kind of encouragement for me to pursue singing. And since I had to survive in the big, bad city of Mumbai, I got into modeling and participated in Mr India. Modelling led me to commercials. In fact, I did over 200 ads and later, I was offered roles in television serials. I was lucky to be a part of the golden era of television and had the opportunity to act in quality soaps like Saaya, Swabhimaan and later, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin,” he reminisces.

This self-confessed fitness freak believes in quality, which explains his absence from shows currently on air, in spite of being offered roles in many serials. “You can say I am strange in my head. For me, any kind of repetition or mediocrity in work is not at all acceptable. I am very picky and choosy about the kind of work I want to do. It’s important for me to enjoy what I am doing and currently nothing on air is really exciting.”

Singing has however been and continues to be his first love. “I mooted the possibility of having a boy band. Of course, I auditioned for it and was great that I made the grade and got to be a part of the first ever all-boy band, that we aptly called ‘A Band of Boys’.

We released a couple of albums and currently, most of our time is spent doing stage shows, which I must admit, are thoroughly enjoyable and give me a great break from Mumbai life.” Their next album, which will be released later this year, has a club music feel to it and offers a lot of other new sounds. Karan is also going to make his debut as a playback singer for movies soon and is excited about this new venture. “I do riyaaz everyday for an hour-and-a-half, without fail.”

He has also forayed into production through his company, Artistic Media, that has already produced several television shows and now has its eyes set on film production. His company is also looking at working on reality music shows that will scout for the best singing talents across the country, in future. Quiz him about his personal life and all he says is, “I really have no time for that as I have a packed schedule. I am always travelling and being the workaholic that I am, there really is no time for anything else.

Whenever I am in Mumbai, I hang out with my close friends and I like it this way.”
Karan adds, “I am incredibly shy, something only my close friends know about me. The only time I am not shy is when I am on stage and I still find it hard and feel awkward attending parties.” Bollywood has also come calling for this handsome actor who hopes to make his debut in the not so distant future. Well, his impressive work is sure to hold him in good stead as he moves to greener pastures!
