SP MLA arrested for misbehaving with woman IAS officer

Last Updated 19 June 2011, 12:15 IST

SP MLA Irfan Solanki and his associates had on June 15 gone to the office of Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCO) MD, Ritu Maheshwari with some complaints. When the security guards did not allow them inside, they barged into the cabin of Maheshwari and allegedly misbehaved with her.

District Magistrate Hari Om had to intervene and the matter was put to rest following an "apology" from the legislator.

However, two days later, a formal complaint was lodged against Solanki and his supporters by executive engineer Ashok Kumar Singh in this regard.

After the arrest of Solanki, his supporters came out on streets protesting the legislator's arrest.

"Late night on June 17 a complaint against Solanki and 20 of his supporters was received at Gwaltoli police station regarding their misbehavior with the IAS officer two days ago," Kanpur range DIG Rajesh Rai said.

Police had registered a case against the accused under various sections of IPC including 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 506 (criminal intimidation).

"This (complaint) is the result of political hatred. When a compromise was achieved on the same day, what was the need of a police complaint two days later?," Solanki had told PTI yesterday.
