The procession led by ABVP was taken out from the college campus to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The protestors submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda.

The protestors urged the Deputy Commissioner to initiate action against the culprits immediately and said that a meeting of the bus owners association and the students’ union must be convened soon.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Shravan Kumar a student leader of the college said
“Saritha took the issue of eve-teasing seriously and ended her life, which is unfortunate. Impartial probe should be conducted into the incident.”

It was said that the deceased student Sarita, poured kerosene on herself in the bathroom of her house on Sunday. Though she was rushed to A J Hospital and Research Centre, she was declared brought dead.

Saritha’s classmates said “Saritha was a silent girl. She had told that the eve teasing has been taking a toll on her and has been traumatising. Saritha had also informed us that the conductor was supported by four other miscreants in eve-teasing. She was bothered over the daily eve-teasing by the conductor.”

College Principal Lakshminarayana Bhatta said that a counselling system was in place in the college wherein a group of teachers counsel students in case of any personal problems. However, he regretted that Saritha did not give any written complaint to her lecturer on the alleged harassment meted out to her by a certain bus conductor.

The college declared holiday as part of mourning over the death of the student on Monday.
