SKDRDP to form 2,142 groups this year

Speaking to media persons, he said a plan of action has been designed to distribute Rs 145 crore for the needy under micro-finance business programmes and Rs 631.97 lakh has been earmarked for the expansion and developmental work.

Briefing the activities that were undertaken by the SKDRDP in the year 2010-11, he said a sum of Rs 55.47 lakh which was released last year was utilised completely for various community based work including construction of gober gas plant, toilets, organising Krishi Mela, water preservation programmes among others.

Some of the activities which were carried out by the SKDRDP in the previous years include distribution of monthly pension of Rs 16.324 lakh to 341 families, distribution of Rs 45.73 lakh scholarship amount to the children of Scheme beneficiaries and organising 453 agricultural training camps, he said.

Shetty informed that various agro-based works were sponsored by the SKDRDP like digging of 239 borewells, construction of 882 wells and buying of 563 pump sets. SKDRDP in association with NABARD had implemented programmes to support ‘Sri’ paddy cultivation method.

As a result 1,045 families adopted ‘Sri’ method. A sum of Rs 5,480 lakh has been saved by 18,2894 Pragathi Bandhu-self employment groups in the district.

Among 1,08,146 families which were registered under Sampoorna Suraksha scheme, 27,320 have obtained the benefit. As a part of the project initiatives were taken to develop 70 backward colonies.

A sum of Rs 2.52 lakh was released the colony development programme. Several awareness programmes were organised including 23 de-addiction camps, were 1,316 have quit alcohol de-addiction, informed Shetty.
