Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the company will open a medical shop in each district headquarters in the first phase and taluks would be covered in the second phase.

The State government has given approval for the proposal of MSIL in principle and already a team has been working on the software and business module. It would create employment opportunities and generate further profits to the company, Patil said.

Patil said the venture would directly benefit consumers as the entire network would be online. MSIL always does business extending 15 to 20 per cent margin of profit to customers, he added.

MSIL is vigorously planning to strengthen its paper division through which it sells Lekhak and Vidya brand of notebooks and presently has market leadership in this category.

Patil said that compared to other districts of the State, the sale of MSIL brand notebooks is very low in Bidar, because similar products are smuggled into Karnataka from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh without paying tax. He requested the district administration to maintain a strict vigil on movement of such products.

The MSIL has been marketing solar water heater panels, mineral water, and was also in the chit fund business. The primary aim of the company is to ensure quality domestic products at affordable prices to customers, he said.

Patil said that the chit fund business of MSIL was growing at a fast pace with a
Rs 70-crore annual turnover and plans are afoot to increase the turnover to Rs 120 crore in 2011-12. In chit fund business, Kerala is in the top position in the country and a team of MSIL would visit and study their concept of business. Later, adopting the Kerala module, the MSIL would increase the turnover to Rs 500 crore, Patil added.
