Last Updated 25 June 2011, 18:51 IST

Mayawati was in Hyderabad on a days visit for her party’s meeting  While addressing a training program organized for the BSP workers in Andhra Pradesh the Dalit leader said her party fully supported the demand for separate state of Telangana.

Participating in the training program for the party workers in a function hall in L B Nagar here, Mayawati declared that her party MPs would vote in favour of Telangana whenever a Bill is introduced in both the houses of Parliament.

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister said her party was in favour of smaller states which provided a healthy environment for rapid development.

Contending that a Dalit should be made chief minister of Telangana, Mayawati said the BSP
would also contest assembly elections in Telangana.

“Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar too supported the cause of smaller states for administrative efficiency,” Mayawati announced.

Mayawati has already created ripples by demanding separate Bundelkhand and western Uttar Pradesh states on the lines of Telangana.  “I have renewed the demand for smaller states through a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to give consent to Uttar Pradesh as it has given to Andhra Pradesh in December 2009 for setting up a separate Telangana state,” Mayawati added.
