Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day national seminar on ‘Exploring Areas of Research in Cognitive Sciences’ he said a technology through which sign language can be converted to readable English text would be a significant and useful invention. The seminar is organised by the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing.

The technology can be brought out if experts from Speech and Hearing Science, Computer Science, Psychology and Neurology come together and work, he said.
There is a need for research in the speech and hearing sciences. Especially in the field of pharmacy. Doctors need to understand the case properly, they should not transfer the case to a psychologist, said the chief guest Dr Somanath Vasudev, neuro surgeon in BGS Apollo Hospital.
The function was presided over by AIISH director S R Savitri. Audiology professor P Manjula and K S Prema were present.
