Call to donate eyes

 Speaking on the occasion, Director of Nethra eye bank B S Madhura said that there were 30 lakh blind people in the country and nearly 60 per cent of them were children. There was a need of 1.60 lakh eyes currently, as against the availability of 8,000 eyes.

Earlier, K R Hospital Superintendent Dr Geetha Avadhani inaugurated the camp. She said that donating eyes after death would help a blind person to regain his sight. Dr V Lakshminarayana spoke on the occasion. District Welfare officer for the Physically Challenged C K Nataraj called upon people with physical deformities to obtain identity cards compulsorily and avail the benefits given by the government.
