Releasing the the book — ‘Bipolar Identity: Region, Nation & the Kannada Language Film’, authored by noted critic M K Raghavendra. and published by Oxford University Press, at the Alliance Francaise Bangalore, on Sunday, Singh said the book, tracing development of Kannada cinema right from 1940s, provided an appropriate template for regional film studies, especifically Kannada cinema.
“Raghavendra’s scholarly tome seeks to trace Kannadathana through his eclectic discourse by examination of various films,” Singh said. He bemoaned how Kannada films had descended to catering to crass commercial demands and value as a meaningful medium.
The book assesses Kannada thespian Rajkumar as a regional icon and changing context of Bangalore City to Kannada-speaking public.
