The challenge was to get as many freshers to participate and to convince them that winning or losing was secondary, that participation came first.
And looks like the new union did a good job for almost all the events saw a good number of girls participate. This year’s Fresher’s Week was organised around the theme of ‘Red Carpet’.

Every day, there was a different dress code and the girls were expected to come dressed in that.

Day one, kickstarted with the dress code ‘yester years’ where  the girls came dressed in black and white.

The dress code for the second day was ‘bling it on’ where the students wore shiny and shimmery outfits with loads of accessories. The last day coincided with the world wide release of ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows-II’ and so the dress code was ‘Harry Potter’. The Fine Arts team did a good job in making the campus come alive with their colourful decorations.

There were the usual events such as dance, both Indian and Western, quiz, antakshari... some of the other interesting events were ‘tattooing’, ‘gaga glamour’, ‘twilight treasure hunt’, ‘talent show’, ‘sudoku with greek alphabets’, ‘what’s in it’, where the girls had to guess the ingredients of the dishes by using only their sense of taste, ‘science jig saw’, wherein the girls had to put together the face of different scientists and name them and

‘Miss Fresher’.

To add to the vibrant atmosphere, there girls had put up a number of stalls where they displayed their creativity and talent by making and selling items such as jewellery, cakes, dhoklas, chaat, etc.  Some had even set up henna stalls and photo booths.

Talking about the their experience of working together as the union for the first time, Karthika Nair, vice president said, “This was the first project where we worked together as a team. It was a fun and equally tiring week. We were impressed with the enthusiasm shown by not only the first years, but also the second and third year students, who were great hosts and an amazing audience. The most rewarding part was the positive feedback that we got from the first years.”

Anala Ravi Narayan, the assistant cultural secretary said the various events proved as a perfect ice-breaker.

“The members of the union got to know each other and the various events helped the freshers come out of their shell.”

Suma Raghunath, a first year Arts student who participated in most of the events said, “I was nervous to participate at first but when a group of my friends insisted and encouraged me, I went ahead and signed up for as many events as I could.”
