Netravati (22) of Hallikeri from Maddur taluk is the ill fated woman whose body was fished out of a lake on Wednesday, with the alleged murder having taken place two days ago.

The body was beyond any recognition, had swollen badly and all the skin had peeled off.

Husband of the deceased Siddaraju, in- laws Gangamma and Devegowda have been taken into police custody, and a case has been registered based on their confessions.

The deceased Netravati is the only daughter of Prema and Chikkalingegowda of Hallikere.

The culprits had allegedly murdered the girl who was married just about a year and half ago, and put her body in a gunny bag and disposed it off in a lake. Since they had tied a huge stone to the bag, the corpse hadn’t floated on the surface of water.

The trio went and confessed having committed the crime before the police and showed the spot where they had disposed the body, after repeated enquiries by Netravati’s parents about their daughter’s whereabouts. Even as they confessed and were taken into custody, irate villagers went on a rampage at the residence of the accused. The house resembled a battle ground with the villagers breaking every conceivable thing at the house into pieces.

Villagers also staged a rasta roko and expressed displeasure against the police for not allowing a glimpse of Netravati’s body, after it was fished out of the water. They even gheraoed Superintendant of Police Kaushalendra Kumar on the occasion.
