DMK seeks HC constituted committee to go into land grabbing

Last Updated 10 August 2011, 13:35 IST

DMK Legal Wing Secretary R S Bharathi in a petition filed in the High Court, also sought an interim injunction to restrain the government, DGP, their officers and others from arresting DMK members 'on false accusations of land grabbing' pending disposal of the petition and from registering 'false cases.'

Charging AIADMK with having an 'inimical' attitude against DMK and 'to wreck vengeance on DMK', Bharathi alleged that the Jayalalithaa government was 'calculative taking steps to tarnish DMK's image through government agencies by utilising government machinery such as the police department.

DMK alleged that government officials and DGP have directed District Superintendents of Police to open up exclusive separate cells district headquarters to receive complaints of land grabbing against its leaders and members, specifically identifying periods of complaints between 2006 to 2011, the period during which the party ruled the state.

"It is shocking that in its enthusiasm to take revenge on DMK party it (ruling AIADMK) constituted and formed 39 anti land Grabbing Special Cells  with a financial commitment of Rs 27,71,11,658,' the petition said adding that 'tax payers money is sought to be squandered by targeting the opposition party'.
