I am open to any interrogation: AC

Last Updated 10 August 2011, 18:53 IST

The AC, however, explained that he was then involved with the Kottanur gram panchayat poll process in Shidlaghatta. “I even accompanied S R Nayak, the chairman of the State Human Rights Commission, on his visit to Barlahalli and Yarrakote in Chintamani.”

In conversation with Deccan Herald, he explained that he had worked as Assistant Commissioner in Puttur in Dakshina Kannada. He has also been working in the same post in Chikkaballapur the last one year. “So far, no such accusation has been made against me. I have been performing my duties diligently and honestly,” Vasanth Kumar said.

Accusing the lawyers of standing up against him ‘giving no prior notice’, the AC said he could even lodge a police complaint against the protesters.

“I will discuss the matter with the Deputy Commissioner and only then take further decisions,” he added.

“I have written to the Deputy Commissioner and senior officers that Harikumar, the public prosecutor, is not cooperating in the Court proceedings. He is also not cooperating in matters of acquisition of government land,” said Vasanth Kumar. “Instead of appearing in
Court in person, he sends his assistants to fight cases.”

Referring to the accusation that he had received bribes to tilt cases related to encroachment, Vasanth Kumar said he had prevented all transgressions related to land scams. “I analysed all facts and reports and passed suitable and just judgments. The lawyers, however, were upset by this and have accused me of being corrupt,” he alleged.

The Assistant Commissioner denied being involved in any scam. He also denied insulting or misbehaving with anybody, ‘including lawyers’.

He challenged the protesting lawyers to prove, with proper witnesses, that he was indeed corrupt. “I am ready to face any kind of interrogation in this matter,” he claimed.
