Youth murdered

In a clash between two groups, a 26-year-old person was stabbed at Gousia Town near Islampur in Old Hubballi on Sunday night, and he later breathed his last at the KIMS on Monday early morning.

The deceased has been identified as Gurusiddappa Ambiger, a driver, survived by wife and two children. It is said that a quarrel between two families led to clash between two groups, and Gurusiddappa was stabbed.

Residents of the area and others staged a protest on Monday, demanding proper compensation for the deceased's family and punishment for the guilty.

Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli and Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj visited the spot, and assured to make efforts to fulfill the demands. Mr Nagaraj gave Rs 10,000 on the spot, considering the poverty of the deceased's family.

In connection with the case, Kasabapet police arrested five persons, Atiq Kalwad, Afridi Kalwad, Anwar kalwad, Aslam Kalwad and Mohamad Rafiq.

Van gutted

A van transporting currency notes caught fire near Varur in the taluk on Monday evening.

The van of a private agency which transports cash to bank branches was gutted, after fire appeared in its engine. Van driver and others safely shifted around Rs 70 lakh cash, and nobody was injured.
