World Konkani meet in Mangalore

‘Jagotik Konknni Songhotton’ (Global Konkani Organisation), a universal stage for the different Konkani organisations will be formed on August 20. Different cultural, social and literary associations and institutions around the world would be a part of JKS.

The idea of common stage for Konkani associations is being promoted by Konkani cultural organisation ‘Mandd Sobhann’.The objectives of the organisation include representing Konkani people and their issues globally and to enrich and preserve the characteristics of the language and its variety.  Speaking to the press, ‘Mandd Sobhann’ Gurkaar Eric Ozario said that they are in an attempt to unite Konkanis splintered and spread round the world.

“There are different castes, creeds, regions and dialectics in Konkani which are stretched across the globe. We are having a humble mission to unite them all,” he said. The first global general assembly of JKS will be held on August 20 at Kalaalgann. “We are expecting over 100 Konkani organisations from around the globe to attend the meet,” Ozario added. The general assembly will pass the constitution and elect the executive committee of the organisation.

World Konkani Day

The same day will be also witness the formal launching of ‘Jagotik Konknni Songhotton’ by renowned psychiatrist and writer Dr K A Ashok Pai. The world konkani day will be celebrated on the eve under the aegis of JKS. Music director and lyricist Hamsalekha will be the chief guest.
