Ostracised dalits stage protest at Navalgund

Refusing to work at Andanigoudra Patil has proved costly to these dalits.

“Irked by our refusal to work, he has ostracised us by making an announcement. Further, Andanigoudra has warned that he would impose a fine of Rs 5,001 on each who would come to our aid. Also, he has instructed shop owners not to give us any food and other items. Even the owners of tea stalls are barred from giving us any beverages,” the dalits complained.

The dalits also alleged that Andanigoudra beat up Basappa Shivappa Madar black and blue. Also, he took away 80 sheep belonging to him. “Moreover, our children were not allowed to go to school. He abused our women as well,” one of the protestors said.

The protesters filed complaint against Andanigoudra Patil, Rajappagouda Patil, Neelakantagouda Patil, Basappa Benneppanavar, Shankrappa Hugar, and Karibasappa Javur in connection with the atrocity.

Of them Neelakantagouda Patil and Shankrappa Hugar have been arrested.
The dalits urged the police to arrest the culprits at the earliest and render them justice and also ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

State Adi Jambhava Madigara Sangha has condemned the incident.
