Doc, pharmacist continue to battle for life

The girl was brought from a private clinic to Sassoon on Friday night. She was “stable” and did not need ventilator support, hospital sources said. Maharashtra public heath minister Rajendra Shingne has clarified that although the number of swine flu patients have shown an increase, many of them were successfully treated and cured.

As of Saturday, 133 patients were cured after a five-day course and were later discharged, while 73 patients were under treatment in various hospitals in Mumbai, Pune and Satara, Dr Shingne told reporters here. Among the H1N1 infected patients was a student of the reputed and one of the oldest institutes, S P College in Pune, and the authorities decided to close the premises for the entire week till August 16.

Similarly, Symbiosis International University has been closed as a precautionary measure.
Two more colleges, ILS Law College and Vishwakarma Institute of Technology have declared closure as a precaution. As the school children were the worst hit, 20 schools in Pune Camp area have been shut temporarily till further notice. In Mumbai, a 28-year old youth was admitted to a private hospital and is undergoing treatment for swine flu. His condition was stated to be “very critical.
